HCA Division Director Receives Fellowship Appointment

Palm Harbor, FL -- (March 10, 2010) – HCA West Florida is pleased to announce the appointment of Barb Maxwell, RN, MHA, COHN-S, CCM, CWCP, QRP, as a Fellow of The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN).

Each year, AAOHN presents its highest award in occupational and environmental practice, reflected as the AAOHN Fellowship, and recognizes leaders in the field of occupational and environmental health nursing (OEHN) and AAOHN, who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments through significant contributions in the areas of clinical practice, education, research, management and/or policy.

As AAOHN members, Fellows comprise a group of leaders who provide vision to advance skills, knowledge and abilities of occupational and environmental health nurses, influence formation of policy, contribute to research and exemplify highly effective management and clinical practices.

In 1986, Barb established a hospital based workers’ compensation program known as Company Care, Occupational Health Services for HCA. As the Director of HCA’s West Florida Division Company Care program, Barb’s current responsibilities include management of operations for 10 Company Care Occupational Health Programs and serves as a resource to 15 hospital employee health departments.

Barb received her RN from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri, and her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois.  She is a contributing author of Workers’ Comp Management from A to Z with Dr. Nancy Menzel.  Barb is currently President of the Florida State Association of Occupational Health Nurses (FSAOHN), Inc. and Treasurer for Florida West Coast Association of Occupational Health Nurses (FWCAOHN).  She is very active with the organization and has held various positions for the state and local chapters
